For The Mob, By The Mob

This project extends on work already undertaken by members of the collaborative team in stroke awareness and cultural adaptation of evidence-based strategies (Resource: By The Mob for The Mob)

It adds to the growing evidence that yarning is a culturally responsive approach to achieve improved health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities in the context of living well and preventing chronic disease.

Yarning up After Stroke is inspired by the evidence based Take Charge intervention developed and evaluated under the leadership of Dr Harry McNaughton and Dr Vivian Fu. The Take Charge tool is a conversation based self-management tool which when used within the first 6 weeks post-stroke was shown to contribute to significant improvements in disability and quality of life of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people living with stroke in New Zealand.

The communities on Gamilaroi lands are leading and guiding the Yarning up After Stroke Team.
